Are you currently selling a product or service online? There are lots of ways to make money online using marketing as a tool. I wanted to cover a few different concepts with you in this week's marketing post.
1. Online advertising. If you have a web site or blog, a great way to make money is with online advertising. Although I use Google Adsense to manage my online advertising, you can easily sell space on your web site to those who want to reach your audience. Ads can be offered on a pay-per-click basis or through a CPM (cost-per-thousand). Personally, I like to leave the management of my ad program to someone else so I can focus on generating targeted traffic to my numerous web sites and blogs. Be sure to check out ad programs that can help you generate revenue from advertisers in search of a specific audience.
2. An affiliate marketing program. Today, it's easier than ever to find an affiliate marketing program that offers products related to the needs of your audience. From informational type products to entertainment, you can find affiliate programs that offer a diverse set of products for you to sell as well that offer large commissions. Some of the more popular networks include Clickbank, Linkshare, and Commission Junction but there are hundreds of affiliate networks available.
3. List rental. Although I NEVER rent my lists, I did work for a company that was in the list business. And there's a lot of money to be made in this area. If you are up front with your visitors and get them to opt in for specific promotions from your partners, then think about renting your list. If done correctly this should provide value for your visitors seeking information while generating some additional revenue for your business. Always be transparent though. It is important that you never sell or rent someone's name or email address without them knowing about it.
4. Ongoing email marketing. Once someone opts-in to your newsletter or web site, you have permission to market to them. When doing so think "value". The object is to keep people on your list over the long term, building a relationship and providing real value. When you do they are more likely to buy what you have to offer. Sign up for an auto-responder like Aweber to automate the communication process with those who provide their name and email address. This creates an ongoing relationship that can pay long term dividends.
5. User generated content. Another great way to make money using your marketing skill is through user generated content. I have found that review sites and other web sites that create a community are very valuable and can be leveraged using many of the techniques we've already spoken about. Affiliate marketing, opt-ins, and advertising can begin to generate additional revenue when tied into an online community. Think about creating forums and platforms for like minded individuals to contribute, and you will have created a valuable resource that keeps generating revenue again and again.
No matter what type of online resource you currently have available, you can generate extra money on a regular basis by utilizing your marketing skills. The purpose of marketing is to move someone through a purchase process. If you want that process to lead to direct revenue, then consider the five opportunities noted above.
As is true with any marketing campaign, the key is measurement and optimization. Always seek to improve your results in each area. Once you launch a campaign, let it run for a couple of weeks and track your results. That becomes your control and your goal is to improve results. Stay focused and you could quickly find yourself becoming the next internet marketing millionaire!
